UEFA Women's EURO 2025 in Switzerland overtook the record-breaking 2022 finals in England as the highest-attended tournament ever.
Following the first semi-final between England and Italy in Geneva, the aggregate attendance for 2025 moved over 600,000, comfortably passing the 2022 tally 574,875 with two matches to spare. The final tally of 657,291 meant the overall average topped 20,000 a game for the first time.
Women's EURO 2022 had ended as it began – with a record crowd. A total of 87,192 spectators witnessed England's final triumph over Germany at Wembley Stadium. The previous record crowd for a Women's EURO game stood at 43,301 before a ball was kicked in England, that figure dating back to the 2013 final between Germany and Norway in Solna, Sweden. It was promptly smashed in the opening game of the 2022 edition as 68,871 fans turned out to watch England edge a 1-0 win against Austria and, by the end, the old overall record of 240,055 had been more than doubled.
England have continued to set record crowds at Wembley since – 83,132 for the April 2023 Finalissima match with Brazil, 71,632 watching England beat the Netherlands in the UEFA Women's Nations League league stage eight months later, an unprecedented 63,428 for a EURO qualifier in April 2024 against Sweden and a world best women's friendly attendance of 78,346 six months later against the United States that November.
UEFA Women's EURO 2025 in Switzerland had no stadiums the size of Wembley or Old Trafford, but ticket sales hinted that records would fall. One competition mark in the opening week was the 29,520 watching Spain against Portugal in Bern, which was the most ever for a Women's EURO game other than the final not involving a host nation – a record that stood for only five days before 34,165 watched Germany defeat Denmark in Basel.
The aggregate attendance after Matchday 2 of the group stage was already over 300,000, more than the final total of every tournament other than England 2022. By the end of the group stage, that had reached 461,582, six of the top ten all-time Women's EURO crowds having already been registered in Switzerland over that fortnight.
The knockouts began with 26,276 watching Italy beat Norway in Geneva, the highest attendance for a quarter-final not involving the hosts. Two days later, the overall quarter-final record went when Spain defeated Switzerland in Bern with 29,734 watching in the stadium, a record that stood for 24 hours before the crowd of 34,128 at France vs Germany in Basel. By the time 34,203 watched the final between England and Spain in Basel, Switzerland 2025 was responsible for six of the top ten all-time crowds (five of them at St. Jakob-Park).
