Wolfsburg's road to victory

VfL Wolfsburg won a second final in as many attempts and coach Ralf Kellermann talks UEFA.com through their run, including a "semi-final" in the last 16 and the Lisbon thriller.

Round of 32: Pärnu JK 14-0 (a), 13-0 (h), agg: 27-0
I would emphasise the fact that this season we were taken more seriously from the start and we faced some strong opponents, but the first round was 27-0, so it wasn't normal Champions League level, obviously.

Round of 16: FCR Malmö 2-1 (a), 3-1 (h), agg: 5-2
Against Malmö it already felt like a semi-final. We had a game where we won by two goals, but which we could easily have lost by two. It was an absolutely excellent game from Malmö. For us, with those two matches – especially that return game where we won – it was extremely important to show that, when necessary and we are playing against a top team in this competition, we can rely on our quality.

Quarter-finals: FC Barcelona 3-0 (h), 2-0 (a), agg: 5-0
In the first leg we attacked them early and they could not play their tiki-taka game.

Semi-finals: 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam 0-0 (a), 4-2 (h), agg: 4-2
When I think about the emotion and the pace of those semi-final matches, it was great publicity for women's football. I can see the return leg in the [men's VfL Wolfsburg] Arena, the fact that we had an arena at our disposal and managed to attract over 10,000 spectators. And the way in which both teams played football, that is publicity for women's football. It was to the standard of the Champions League, worthy of a semi-final.

Final: Tyresö FF 4-3 (Lisbon)
In the first half we didn't show what we were capable of, and Tyresö showed great quality, great individual quality. When I see what a goal Marta scored, that's real quality there. For the first goal we lost the ball in the danger zone, something that shouldn't happen. One minute later there was a three against two, and you shouldn't concede goals like that. In the first half, we didn't play the way we initially wanted to, but in the end we can live with that final score!

Overall
Last year, there were a lot of new experiences for the club. Not for all the players, because some had already been very successful in this competition with other clubs. But it just showed that there was, I think, a deeper focus. That experience, against big favourites [Olympique Lyonnais], and winning as a team and holding that trophy up in the air, that made all the players want to experience it once again ... What I did say to all my players is that all of them from 1-25, and all the staff, have worked very hard for a long time and I can't express my gratitude enough.
