Galatasaray lead Turkish sides through

Former winners Galatasaray SK were among the teams to go through to the UEFA Cup first round after coming through the second qualifying round on a good night for Turkish sides. Second division Kayseri Erciyesspor caused an upset by knocking out Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC while elsewhere PFC CSKA Sofia and FK Rabotnicki needed last-minute goals to ensure their progress as uefa.com rounds up the action from the southern section.

Galatasaray SK 2-1 NK Slaven Koprivnica (agg: 4-2)
On the day known as 'Victory Day' in Turkey, Galatasaray maintained their 100 per cent start to the new season with victory against Slaven. In the first game in front of their own fans this season due to a five-match domestic stadium ban, the 1999/00 winners dominated throughout and took the lead after ten minutes when Ümit Karan collected Lincoln's pass before firing in. The visitors were given hope when Stjepan Poljak converted a 36th-minute penalty but within seconds Hakan Şükür volleyed in what was to prove the winning goal.

Kayseri Erciyesspor 3-1 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC (agg: 4-2)
With the match evenly poised after the 1-1 draw in Israel the hosts were boosted by an early goal when İlhan Özbay cut in from the right wing to beat Dragoslav Jevrić on six minutes. Nine minutes later it was 2-0 as Köksal Yedek received a wonderful pass from Burhan Coşkun and weaved his way past two defenders before firing in. Rudy Haddad's header reduced the arrears (41) for the visitors but the Turkish side booked their place in the first round when Alaattin Öztekin capitalised on more superb approach play by the impressive İlhan.

FC Otelul Galeti 0-0 PFC Lokomotiv Sofia (agg: 1-3)
The home side were left to rue a combination of stunning goalkeeping and profligate shooting as Lokomotiv held on to their first-leg advantage in Romania. Uroš Golubović was the visitors' hero, making a string of fantastic saves to deny Janos Szekely, Dorin Semeghin and Emil Jula and even when he was beaten - by Tadas Labukas on 35 minutes - he was saved by the woodwork. Otelul keeper Valentin Bors also impressed as his side went for broke late on, denying Zoran Baldovaliev, Ivo Ivanov and Martcho Davtchev as the game ended all-square.

Anorthosis Famagusta FC 0-0 CFR Ecomax Cluj-Napoca (agg: 3-1)
A sound defensive performance enabled Anorthosis to progress to the first round courtesy of their 3-1 first-leg win. Cluj had it all to do on a humid night in Larnaca and the Romanians were not helped by opposition goalkeeper Arian Beqaj. Eugen Trica had the first real chance for the visitors (14) when his shot whistled over the bar before further attempts from Argentinian striker Cristian Gaston Fabbiani, Didi and Cristian Panin were blocked by the outstanding Beqaj. The hosts' chances were limited to a Lukasz Sosin effort in the first half and a Fabio de Matos Pereira strike but crucially Temur Ketsbaia's men managed not to concede.

Maccabi Netanya FC 0-1 UD Lieria (agg: 0-1)
Serge N'gal's 84th-minute winner saw the Portuguese outfit prevail, breaking the deadlock in a match that had seemingly been heading for extra time. Played in front of 7,000 people at the Kiryat Eliezer Stadium, the home crowd had been optimistic of seeing their side play in the UEFA Cup first round for only the second time as they matched Leiria, only for Cameroonian forward N'gal to dash their hopes late on.

PFC Litex Lovech 3-0 KS Besa (agg: 6-0)
Litex continued their impressive UEFA Cup campaign with yet another one-sided match as they overwhelmed their Albanian visitors in Lovech. With a comfortable three-goal cushion after the first encounter, coach Ferario Spasov selected a weakened side but it was business as usual as Stanislav Genchev broke the deadlock early on. Brazilian pair Beto and Carlos Eduardo Tome then added second half goals as Litex secured a 6-0 aggregate triumph to add to the 7-0 one they enjoyed against Sliema Wanderers FC in the previous round.

Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC 3-0 NK Široki Brijeg (agg: 6-0)
Hapoel repeated their first-leg score to complete a comfortable 6-0 aggregate victory against their Bosnia-Herzegovnian opponents. So confident were home fans that their side would go through that only 7,000 turned up at the Bloomfield Stadium but those present were treated to a commanding performance which produced goals from Lior Asulin (41), Walid Badir (50) and Bibras Natcho (75).

PFC CSKA Sofia 2-1 AC Omonia (agg: 3-2)
CSKA Sofia needed a last-minute goal from Georgi Chilikov to overcome a stubborn Omonia side. After only managing a draw in Cyprus a fortnight ago, CSKA were left stunned when Loizos Kakoyiannis turned in a corner seven minutes in. Ten minutes later the home side restored parity as Tunchev Nei reacted quickest in a goalmouth scramble, and after Omonia's Ismaila Ba had been dismissed for two bookable offences 13 minutes from time substitute Chilikov sealed a dramatic win as he connected with Yordan Todorov's cross. The visitors' misery was completed in added time when they were reduced to nine men following a red card for Nelson Veiga

NK Zrinjski 1-2 FK Rabotnicki (agg: 1-2)
Following the sides' stalemate in Skopje two weeks ago Zrinjski began optimistic of progress on Croatian soil but their hopes were dashed in a dramatic match in Mostar. Nemanja Milisavljević put the Macedonian visitors ahead in the 32nd minute only for the home side to equalise within four minutes with a spectacular Mario Ivanković strike from range. Zrinjski were dealt a blow when Admir Joldić was sent off shortly before the break, however, and after they were reduced to nine men following Davor Landeka's dismissal Lazar Stanišić was on hand to claim a winner for Rabotnicki two minutes into added time.
