FIFA World Cup-winning Italy centre-back Alessandro Nesta will continue his career in Major League Soccer (MLS) after signing a contract with Montreal Impact.
The 36-year-old announced his decision to leave AC Milan in May after ten seasons with the Rossoneri in which he won the Scudetto and the UEFA Champions League twice. Nesta also lifted the Italian title and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup with his previous club S.S. Lazio. He racked up a total of 417 Serie A appearances and 101 in the UEFA Champions League.
Capped 79 times by Italy and winner of the 2006 World Cup, Nesta joins compatriots Bernardo Corradi, Matteo Ferrari and Marco Di Vaio at the Canadian side. "I'm very happy to be here," he said. "Despite some offers to continue my career in Europe, I was looking for a new challenge and wanted to play in MLS."
Nesta has become the third member of the 2003 and 2007 UEFA Champions League winning sides to leave the Rossoneri this summer. Clarence Seedorf went to Brazilian team Botafogo FR and Gennaro Gattuso sealed a move to Swiss outfit FC Sion.
