Promoting public health will be chief among the topics for discussion at the UEFA-supported European Healthy Stadia Conference taking place in Liverpool on 21 September.

Balancing the social and the corporate
UEFA is giving its backing to the one-day event at Liverpool's Arena and Convention Centre which will focus on corporate and social responsibility, community relations and facilities management, from the point of view of club representatives, stadium stakeholders and sports governing bodies.

Aims of the conference
The Healthy Stadia Programme aims to promote public health, community-outreach activities and environmental initiatives while also consolidating the corporate objectives of clubs. The conference, which will be followed by a gala dinner at Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium, is an opportunity to share learning, resources and best practice, as part of the launch of a European Healthy Stadia Network.

Public health initiatives
UEFA's involvement with this EU-funded project continues the efforts of the European football governing body in supporting public health initiatives such as the Eat for Goalschildren's cookbook.

The Liverpool event will feature speeches on best practice in the following areas:

  • Corporate and social responsibility
  • Community engagement and regeneration
  • Sustainability and recycling
  • Racism and organised violence
  • Health promotion through stadia
  • Healthy food and drink options
