Latvia begin finals countdown

Latvia have begun their preparations for UEFA EURO 2004™ by announcing two friendly dates.

Friendly tournament
Aleksandrs Starkovs' side will play Kuwait in Cyprus on 20 December, and will travel to the country again in February next year to take part in a friendly tournament, the participants of which are not yet known.

Turkish delight
Latvia unexpectedly reached next summer's UEFA European Championship in Portugal with a 3-2 aggregate win against FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Turkey, securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Riga before recovering from two goals down to draw 2-2 in Istanbul.
